Connected

Connected is a collaboration between artist (Rachel Rea) and technologist (Anzir Boodoo), bridging man-made design with natural phenomena. ‘Mycelium’ is a fungi network that plant-life and trees communicate in order to preserve the survival of its species. The audience interacts with the environment, that is then picked up through microphones and interprets the intensity of the light. It acts like an organism that cannot be repeated, due to the unpredictable connectivity of its environment.

Tubular Changes

After the majority of plastic that is left over from the Swarm Project, I want to use the tubular shape of the barrels to create a piece of work that is interactive. It recreates organic shapes of the Mycelium and remains fluid in its mobility so it can adapt to different spaces using techniques from costume construction.

The interactive aspect is the use of ESP controller technology. Through data input, light is made into sequences that is picked up through microphones. The duller the sound the smaller the light intensity. However when volume increases the lights sparkle in a variant of frequencies so that sings when voices are applied, hence connecting the viewer with the artwork and the microscopic organism itself.
