Immortal Bloom

Chiq Plastique, a charity event in association with Marine Conservation Society

A few friends wanted to make a birthday party very special. They caught my work in the HumanAquairium project and wondered if i would get involved with creating some special plastic wonders.
The process was to collect domestic waste accumulated over one month.

I created a sea-slug out of cellophane packing, picked up from the skip, washed and wrapped into a slug shape where i made winged spikes that are illuminated with electroluminescent wire. This inspired me to start looking at other species of the marine world and now sea-slugs has become another frenzy.

There were some fantastic wonders made, an octopus hat made from cable wires, fish made from crisp packets and a hand bag made of Yorkshire tea boxes. It’s magical to work with other people, i find when working on ones own, ideas and creativity can become stumped. What started as a solo show has now become immersed with people.
